Back in February, we broke down the disappointing news regarding the voltage regulation issue in the initial run of Limited Run Games’ Rug Rats: Adventures in Gameland NES cartridges. Like many of you, I’ve been patiently waiting to see how this would be resolved. Today, I’m thrilled to share some good news, along with a massive update on the future of Limited Run Games (LRG).

The Rugrats Carts Are Finally Shipping!
I just received an email confirming that the newly manufactured game paks—which we’ve been assured will not suffer from the voltage issues that plagued the first batch—have officially shipped! My “Updated NES Cart Rugrats Adventure in Gameland” is expected to arrive on my doorstep by April 15th. Ironically, that’s Tax Day here in the US, but hey, at least I’m getting a return in the form of some classic 8-bit platforming action.
I genuinely appreciate how LRG handled this mistake. Replacing the affected carts with ones produced by their trusted, long-time manufacturing partner was the right move. I’ll definitely be doing a follow-up review once the cartridge is safely slotted into my NES.
The Great Limited Run “Reset” of April 2026
The Rugrats fix is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. If you follow physical media news, you might have noticed that Limited Run Games is currently undergoing a major organizational “reset” this month.
In a wave of transparent emails sent out on April 10th, 2026, LRG publicly acknowledged what many of us in the retro gaming community have been feeling for a while: pre-orders have been running far too behind. The company admitted that their previous delivery timelines were simply too aggressive. Under new leadership—specifically Nic Ashford taking over as COO and Brendan Madigan stepping in as CFO—LRG is pivoting to a “fan-first” strategy.
They are officially “resetting the standard” to provide realistic shipping dates rather than overly optimistic ones. Furthermore, they are drastically tightening their Quality Control standards to address long-standing production delays and controversies (we all remember the recent Sonic X Shadow Generations statue issues). It takes courage for a company to admit its faults, and this reset is exactly what the cottage industry needs to keep our trust.
Current & Upcoming Releases (April 2026)

Despite the operational changes, the games keep coming. Several high-profile physical editions and pre-orders are currently live or launching soon. Here’s what you should keep an eye on:
- He-Man and the Masters of the Universe™: Dragon Pearl of Destruction: This highly anticipated magic-brawler is set to launch on April 28th (MOTU Day). By the power of Grayskull, my wallet isn’t ready!
- Worms (SNES): A physical release of the beloved arcade-strategy classic is currently available to order.
- Sigma Star Saga DX (Game Boy Advance): Collector’s Editions are shining in the spotlight right now for fans of this unique shooter/RPG hybrid.
- Gimmick! (NES): Available in both standard and Collector’s Editions. A true masterpiece that every NES collector should own.
- Nobody Wants to Die (Xbox Series X): A gorgeous physical run for the noir detective game set in a futuristic New York.
- Snow Bros. Nick & Tom (Game Boy): Another fantastic retro-focused release currently available to bolster your handheld library.
Final Thoughts
It’s encouraging to see a major player in our hobby take accountability and actively work to improve their operations. Between my fixed Rugrats cartridge finally arriving and the new fan-first fulfillment strategy, my experience with LRG is heading back in a very positive direction. Let’s hope this “reset” brings us all fewer delays and more time actually playing the physical games we love.
What are your thoughts on LRG’s organizational reset? Are you picking up any of the April releases? Let me know in the comments!
